Dog Lovers: Off-Leash Dog Parks in Clayton and Cloverdale

Surrey is known as the city of parks. There are plenty of beautiful spots to take the family outdoors and into nature. Unfortunately for dog owners, finding places to let their furry loved ones run free can be a bit more of a challenge. Pet owners in the Clayton Heights and Cloverdale area can take comfort knowing that there are great off-leash dog parks close by, offering plenty of space for dogs of all sizes to let loose and enjoy some freedom.

Dog Parks in Clayton

There is currently one off-leash dog park in the Cloverdale area. Located at 7011 188 Street is the Clayton Dog-Off-Leash Park. This park is a local favourite, and was engineered with our four-legged friends in mind. The park features grass fields, forest paths, and a large paved walkway that runs the perimeter of the grounds. The park is fully fenced, and is the first in the city to offer separate areas for small and large dogs. Clayton Dog Park has ample parking, and a water fountain to ensure its users stay hydrated as they play.

The Clayton dog park is just one of the many reasons why many home buyers are moving to the area. Other Off-Leash Surrey Parks

A short drive from Cloverdale is the Tynehead Regional Park. This park, located on the 172 block of 96 Avenue, is a hot spot for many animals, and not just pets. Owls, hawks, and coyotes find their habitat in this large forested park. Lush trails and paths lead to viewing areas and resting spots that overlook various landscapes and salmon habitat throughout the park. This 260-hectare space is the perfect setting for exploration and fun. When you arrive at the park, turn north on Highway 1 onto 168 Street to find parking, and the Tynehead Regional Park off-leash dog area. This is a great spot for a day out, and is also home to the Tynehead fish hatchery and butterfly garden.

Also nearby is Freedom Park, located at 15452 84 Avenue. This park features large grass fields ideal for running. There is a forested trail that loops around the open areas of the park, covered seating for pet owners, and a water tap. Be aware that the off-leash area is not fully fenced, so keep an eye on your pooch at all times.

Serpentine Dog Park is a bit farther outside town. The park, at 12589 76 Avenue, has a large, fully-fenced area, and is accessible from various entrances. The park is connected through walkways and paths to surrounding neighbourhoods. Amenities include a covered viewing area and washroom facilities.

Surrey’s Dog Off-Leash Strategy

More parks are in development as an off-leash dog strategy breaks ground in Surrey. Cloverdale has two other off-leash projects in the works, but at this time they are still conceptual and subject to community consultation. One would be a dog off-leash area in the Cloverdale Athletic Park, and the other would be located at the Hydro right-of-way at 60 Avenue and 184 Avenue. Although not in the immediate Cloverdale area, Panorama Park (12863 60 Avenue) is under construction, and will have a large, fenced, off-leash area for pets to play.

Large cities can seem like a human’s world, and sometimes feel unaccommodating to man’s best friend. The city of parks, however, is working towards a solution by giving our four-legged residents more room to run. With great off-leash dog areas available now, and with more to come, both you and your pet can enjoy some fresh air and fun at a variety of city parks.
